Roy Freeman

The son of author-artists Lydia and Don Freeman (creator of "Corduroy"), Roy started painting after he left home when he was sixteen. He later worked as a commercial fisherman, lived with the Mazatec Indians in Mexico, and studied film and music at Antioch College. Roy left Antioch and turned to science and received a masters and PhD degrees in physics and geophysics from the Swiss Institute of Technology, where he taught and researched for many years. He left academia in 1999 and worked as a coach for young adults on the autistic spectrum. He has edited and produced several unpublished books by his father such as "Earl the Squirrel," "Manuelo and his Cello," "Skitzy," "Goodwin the Goat," "One More Acorn." He is also co-publisher (taotime) and has recently printed a new graphic novel by Don Freeman, "The Masks". In the summer he leads multi-day excursions on geology and natural processes in the Swiss Alps. In the winter he puts his own paintings to words and creates books. Recently published in English is "Tseremaaks and Nagunaks, the Whale-Chief" (a Tsimshian legend). "Conversations with a Rock" is coming in 2021!
