Julien Chaisse

Julien Chaisse is a Professor and RGC Senior Research Fellow at the School of Law, City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). He is a leading authority on international economic law, dispute resolution, and the interaction between law, emerging technologies, and the data-driven economy. His interdisciplinary research integrates law, economics, technology, and international relations, addressing both established trade and investment matters and the regulation of the digital economy.

He serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of World Investment & Trade and the Asia Pacific Law Review, and writes the “Global Lawyer” column for the Financial Times’ fDI Intelligence Magazine. Recognized among Stanford University Top 2% Most Highly Cited Scientists every year since 2023, Professor Chaisse’s scholarship is widely referenced not only in academia but also by international tribunals and courts in the United States and Europe, reflecting its influence on both scholarship and practice.

His achievements include the Senior Research Fellowship (2025) from the Research Grants Council, the CityU Outstanding Research Award (2023), the Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship (2022), the Smit-Lowenfeld Prize (2020) from the International Arbitration Club of New York, and the CUHK Vice-Chancellor’s Young Researcher Award (2018).
