Al has worked in mass media for some thirty years, in the UK, USA, Israel and South Africa. He has a Bachelor of Journalism degree and has served as a journalist, communications officer, copywriter, and editor. He is also an internationally published author with Lion Hudson / Monarch Books.
Al ran a publishing company in South Africa for ten years and has lived in England since 2001, where he works for a global television network. He has interviewed many inspirational leaders during the course of his career and as a writer aims to capture real-life accounts of people who have overcome obstacles.
His first book, 'Life on the Line' focuses on New Zealander Des Sinclair and his travels through Africa, capturing stories of how Des narrowly escaped death several times and now encourages people to become a lifeline to others.
His second book 'Mother of Malawi' focuses on the work of Annie Chikhwaza, the founder of Kondanani Children's Village in Malawi. Annie was attacked by a mob of 200 hundred and left for dead. Out of a place of destruction and despair, she has created a place of life and hope. Malawi is a country of 12 million people of which one million are orphans so there is a desperate need. Mother of Malawi tells the extraordinary story of how one woman who is making a world of difference.
Al's most recent publishing venture is Life After Belsen by Simon Bloomberg (1894-1981) who led the Bergen-Belsen DP Camp after WW2. Al met Simon’s daughter Eva Spiers through a mutual friend, Pat Poole and was given a collection of 70-year-old diaries, reams of aging typed pages of an initial manuscript and a batch of faded handwritten letters. After a lengthy editing process, Life After Belsen is the result.
