I go by "Bob" and I focus on what we call "generative" approaches, which means that we can see how to make things happen rather than just describe them. This is important for areas that are fuzzy, yet are performance arts, like leadership, management, communication, organizations, education, performance, and yes, innovation! My passion is enabling people to find and strengthen their clarity about what they care about, and their capacity to make it happen.
I'm the founder of the Institute for Generative Leadership, where we offer the three-year Generative Leadership Program™ (GLP) and the Coaching Excellence in Organizations (CEO) program. See www.generateleadership.com.
My published articles include The Body of Management, What Makes Leadership Work?, Back to School – The Top 14 Mistakes that Executives Make, and The Generative Foundations for Action in Organizations. I've also co-published the articles The Missing Customer and Innovation as Language Action with Dr. Denning. I've written over 30 proprietary papers on leadership and management and I co-hold two patents for workflow technology based on the structure of human coordination.
I founded the consulting company Enterprise Performance and am co-founder of Altus Growth Partners, where my teams and I have done consulting with clients including IBM, Discovery Channel, Adobe, Toshiba America, Classmates, Scholastic, Wells Fargo, and many other companies.
Prior to founding Enterprise Performance, I was a VP at Motorola Computer Systems, as well as COO of Action Technologies and VP of Consulting for Business Design Associates. I earned two degrees from Stanford University, was on the staff that developed the three-year Ontological Design Course, and have studied the discipline of embodied learning and leadership extensively. Earlier in my career, I led the on-board software development team for the Hubble Space Telescope for several years - check out the photos from Hubble on the NASA website!
I was Executive in Residence, Adjunct Faculty, at the Presidio School of Management's MBA program in Sustainable Management for three years and taught subsequently in their Executive certification program.
I hope the Innovator's Way enables you to make the difference you want with your innovations!
