I'm a British author living in an old cottage in Weymouth, Dorset, about 400 yards from the sea, with a variable number of critturs. I work as a writer of novels, shorter fiction, poetry, book reviews and articles.

In a previous existence, I worked for the British Open University on course production between 1980 and 1997, when I left to write professionally. Thereafter I returned to the OU as a tutor in second level creative writing between 2006 and 2013.

I've been self-publishing my own novels, novellas, and short stories under my Moo Kow Press imprint since 2009. In 2016 I started reviewing fiction for Big Al & Pals - the premier online reviewer of indie books in the US.

I review other indie and sometimes more mainstream fiction, non-fiction, and poetry on my blog (judimoore.wordpress.com). If I can't find 3*s worth of nice things to say about a book I don't review it. In August of 2022 I finally became a proper 'local author' by releasing a book of 29 of my short stories all set in and around Weymouth. They have been beautifully illustrated by Mat Cross. I wrote them at workshops between 2016 and 2019, and when the world closed in 2020 I spent the various lockdowns licking them into shape. I'm very pleased with the result. And Mat's cover, in particular, is just gorgeous. Go and see what you think of it, why not?

In December 2017 I published my fourth book. A campus novel: 'Wonders will never cease'. The book is a comedy of British academic life in the Age of Thatcher from the perspective of the world's first distance-teaching university. It takes a wry look at contemporary sexual mores, working and drinking habits, as it follows its protagonist from bedpost to boozer. It considers whether it is possible finally to grow up in one's fifties, and how one might at the same time face down the spectres of enforced early retirement and lonely old age. Quite a lot of sex happens and a lot of alcohol is drunk. If you like the campus novels of Tom Wolfe, Phillip Roth, Brett Easton Ellis, David Lodge, or Tom Sharpe, you may well enjoy this book.

In 2015 I published a volume of my short stories, 'Ice Cold Passion'. Most of them had been published previously in competition anthologies (which means they are some of my best) but small press anthologies have a tiny circulation, and quickly go out of print, so I have gathered them together for your delectation.

In 2014 I published my first novella - 'Little Mouse'. Readers have been kind enough to describe it as 'gripping'. It concerns a small family of Jews who flee Berlin after Kristallnacht in 1938 and make a new life for themselves in Edinburgh, Scotland. The novella revisits them a decade later when someone from the old days arrives and threatens to destroy what they have achieved.

In 2009 I published 'Is death really necessary?', my first book. It's science fiction, in that it's got science in it, but there are no space ships. There are, however, golf carts. There are also two love stories involving four seriously dysfunctional people. And someone eventually takes a bath. It is set in Britain - in London, Milton Keynes and Edinburgh.
