Janet Hubbs

I was born in Brooklyn, New York, grew up in Manhattan and Long Island, and currently live at the Jersey Shore in Monmouth County and have a cottage at Cape Cod. I went to college in western Pennsylvania, Westminster College (BA), and upstate New York to Syracuse University for my MA. My first novel, Syracuse, uses the University as its primary setting. My second novel, Grace, will be published in the Winter, 2010. I have also published a poetry collection, A Year at the Shore. I work as a college administrator and have a daughter who lives in Connecticut with her husband and two sons. I also have two calico kitties, Thelma and Louise.

I read constantly, was formerly an English professor (before my students got too young), and no longer have any political affiliation. I used to be a liberal Democrat, but I don't know what that means any more, so I just listen and read and try to determine whether or not anyone is telling anything close to the truth. It's harder work than being a liberal and believing everything I read in the NY Times. I love football, the Giants, and my heart breaks whenever they lose. My favorite author is usually the one I'm reading at the moment, but the ones I adore teaching are Shakespeare, Joyce and Woolf because they give you everything to say.
