John Cline

Recipient of the Governor's Award on the Arts for 2012, and recognized as one of Idaho's top fifty authors for 2011, John Cline is the author of:

"The Last Confederate Battle," the story of three brothers who fought for the South,

"Sea Stories & Navy Tales", a collection of short stories about life in the Navy in the 70's and 80's, and

"Toby and the Wooden Flute," a Christmas story for kids of all ages about living with adversity in the first century.

He is currently working on a sequel to "The Last Confederate Battle" titled "Rebuilding American Dreams."

John also composed several songs including, "American Bridal Waltz," "Sunset in the Harbor," and "Song of Idaho", which can be viewed on YouTube.

Following a twenty-five year career in both the enlisted ranks (Master Chief Petty Officer),and the officer corps as a Limited Duty Officer (Mustang), John retired from the U.S. Navy in July 1993 as a Lieutenant Commander. Following his naval career, he served the State of Idaho as director of the Idaho Bureau of Disaster Services.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University, at Carbondale, in Workforce Education and Curriculum Development. He received a Masters Degree (MA) in National Security Studies: Homeland Security and Defense, from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (140th Session), and was nationally certified by both the National Coordinating Council on Emergency Management and the International Association of Emergency Managers.

He is an avid Amateur Radio Operator with the call sign W5USN. He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Navy Mustang Association, Military Officers Association of America, and the FBI National Academy Associates.

After eighteen wonderful years in Idaho, John and his wife, Pat, returned to San Diego, California to be with children and grandchildren.
