Fikri, Schlumberger Fellow, is currently Chief Reservoir Engineer for Schlumberger Testing Services. He was a consulting professor at the Petroleum Engineering Department of Stanford University from 1988 to 1994 and taught Advanced Well Testing. Before joining Schlumberger in 1982, he worked on reservoir performance and management for BP/Sohio Petroleum Company. He has an MS degree from the Technical University of Istanbul, and MS and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University, California, all in petroleum engineering.
Fikri is a SPE Distinguished Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and received the SPE 1994 Reservoir Engineering, SPE 2000 Formation Evaluation, SPE 2001 Regional Service Awards, Henri G. Doll Award in 1997 and 1999, and Nobel Laureate Physicist Kapitsa Gold Medal. Fikri received the SPE 2010 Honorary Membership award, which is the highest SPE award.
Fikri has been very active in professional societies: SPE International Director At-Large and SPE Northern Emirates Section Director, and a member of SPE Forum Series Implementation Committee–Eastern Hemisphere and SPE 2001 Middle East Oil Show & Conference Program, 2001 Middle East Forum Steering, SPE Membership, and SPE Reservoir Engineering Award Committees, and SPE Advisory Committee on Industry Outlook. He has chaired many SPE Technical Committees at Annual Technical Conference and Exhibitions and Regional Meetings, and SPE Forums and was a member of the SPE Editorial Review Committee in 1983-1987 and SPEJ 1996-1998. He has been Associate Editor of Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering since 1994 and Turkish Journal of Oil and Gas, and the Chief Editor of Middle East Reservoir Review Magazine (formerly Well Evaluation Review) since 1996.
He has published and presented more than 150 papers on fluid flow in porous media, formation evaluation, pressure transient well testing, production logging, wireline formation testers, horizontal and multilateral well placement and performance, permanent reservoir monitoring, water conformance and control, and reservoir engineering and management. He coauthored with Medhat M. Kamal et. al. SPE Transient Well Testing (Monograph Series) and a recent book titled Pressure Transient Formation and Well Testing, Volume 57: Convolution, Deconvolution and Nonlinear Estimation (Developments in Petroleum Science) by Fikri J. Kuchuk, Mustafa Onur, and Florian Hollaender (www.amazon.com).
