Jeremy Webb

A professional photographer with over 30 years experience, I’ve enjoyed a diverse range of commercial and personal projects and been published and exhibited internationally. My core practice focuses mainly on landscape, documentary and still life, although I’ve explored every area of the medium and enjoyed a wide range of teaching, mentoring, and writing in support of my practice which in recent years has become art-based. I’m as happy with film grain as I am with pixels, and enjoy working with both film and digital images.

During time spent freelancing in photography in my earlier career, I travelled extensively shooting images for stock libraries, the BBC, spent time as an expedition photographer in Tanzania, a cruise ship photographer in Miami, and started selling limited edition prints to institutions and private collections in the USA, where the first edition of my second book Design Principles, was used across a wide range of universities and colleges.

Closer to home, I’m passionate about education and working with the next generation of photographers; whether art-based or commercial, and I’m committed to grass roots photography education. I’ve always found that students learn the most about photography through a back-to-basics approach, learning about light, exposure control, and creating work that is personal, creative, and driven by 3 key factors that underpin my own philosophy to photographic image-making – Clarity, Directness, and Economy. Just about the most fun you can ever have (& the most you can learn) with photography, is showing a class of 11-yr-olds that they can make a fully-functioning pinhole camera from a simple shoebox.

My documentary landscape work from the Norfolk Coast is represented by the Millennium Agency in London, and also featured in an exhibition and book ~Spindrift. More recently I’ve produced large-scale work for a range of public art projects and collaborative commissions for regional clients in my native Norfolk and Suffolk. I continue to run workshops based on my first book Creative Vision, published over 10 years ago.

November 2018 saw my work on show in a solo retrospective exhibition at The Cut in Halesworth, and in Feb 2020, the publication of the much-anticipated 2nd edition of my book, Design Principles, will be published by Bloomsbury.
