Iveta Silova

Iveta Silova is Professor and Director of the Center for Advanced Studies in Global Education at Arizona State University. Born and raised in Soviet Latvia, and having lived and worked in post-Soviet Central Asia and the Caucasus, she has a unique first-hand experience of the events leading up to the breakdown of the Soviet Union and subsequent post-socialist transformations. Iveta's research examines a series of questions: What rationalities underpin the logic and define the purpose of education transformations in various post-socialist contexts? How are global norms understood, experienced, and interpreted in post-socialist contexts? And, more broadly, how do post-socialist policies function to simultaneously promote and challenge global norms? More recently, Iveta has been exploring the intersections of post-socialist, post-colonial, and decolonial perspectives to envision global (education) futures beyond Western modernity. She is a co-editor (with Noah W. Sobe) of "European Education: Issues and Studies" (a quarterly peer-reviewed journal published by Taylor & Francis).
