Jon D. Elhai

Jon D. Elhai received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 2000 from Nova Southeastern University's Center for Psychological Studies. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in 2002 at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Charleston Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center.

Dr. Elhai now serves as Distinguished University Professor in the University of Toledo's Department of Psychology (primary appointment) and Department of Psychiatry (joint appointment), in Toledo, Ohio, where he directs the the Cyberpsychology and Internet Addictions Lab. He previously directed the PTSD Research Lab, but PTSD research is no longer his focus. He is also affiliated with the Anxiety and Stress Lab.

Dr. Elhai has published more than 400 papers, primarily involving empirical studies on psychological trauma and PTSD, as well as internet addictions. He has presented his research at meetings of such organizations as the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. He was Associate Editor for the Journal of Anxiety Disorders, and Academic Editor for PLoS One. He has co-authored books on traumatic stress and PTSD.

Dr. Elhai occasionally serves as an expert witness, in his role as a forensic psychological consultant, primarily on PTSD cases.

Dr. Elhai teaches undergraduate courses on such topics as abnormal psychology and research methodology in clinical psychology, and graduate courses such as cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, research design, and multivariate statistics. He also mentors graduate students on their master's theses and doctoral dissertations, and undergraduate students on their honors' theses.
