Peter Magadini
Peter is a graduate of The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (B.M.) and the University of Toronto (M.M.) While studying at the Conservatory Peter played with the George Duke Trio, w. John Heard bs. (and later Al Jarreau) + The Berkshire Music Center Orchestra at Tangelwood (1968 fellowship recipient) After to moving to Los Angeles in 1969/71 He toured with country artist Bobbie Gentry and then became first tour drummer for Diana Ross. While in LA he taught drums at the Hollywood Professional Drum Shop.
Other artist include: blues/jazz legend Mose Allison, Don Ellis big band, Sonny Stitt, Cleanhead Vincent, Jimmy Witherspoon, Barney Kessel, John Handy, Joe Sealy Trio, Chet Baker, George Coleman, The Toronto Symphony and the shows Les Miserables and Ain't Misbehavin' plus numerous recordings and studio work. In addition Peter has several recordings under his own name
PETER'S BOOKS include: "Polyrhythms The Musicians Guide" (voted number six on Modern Drummer Magazine's survey of the 25 greatest books ) + (new in 2018) All - in - One "Learn To Play The Drumset" ( Hal Leonard Publishing ) and "Polyrhythms For The Drumset" (Alfred Pub.) and finally "The Complete Drumset Rudiments" ( Hal Leonard Publishing) Peter also has several clips on "You Tube" under his own name.
included among his teachers are drummers: Donald Bothwell and Roy Burns, NY Philharmonic Timpanist, Roland Kohloff "Nexus" co-founders John Wyre and Robin Engleman and North Indian tabla master Mahapurush Misra.
In addition to his own private teaching Peter has taught drums and Percussion at The San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Concordia University, McGill University (both in Montreal Canada) + The Dave Brubeck Institute from 2006 thru 2010 for the University of The Pacific in Northern California.
