J. Albert Handford

J. Albert Handford grew-up in the North-end of the City of New Bedford amid tales of ocean going adventures. He is a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School and has earned four degrees from Bryant University (BSBA "Computer Systems Management" BSCJ "Law Enforcement"). He was an Interior Communications Electrician Petty Officer 2nd Class in the United States Navy serving on the USS Princeton LPH 5, the USS Washoe County LST 1165 and the USS Coral Sea CVA 43 with service in Vietnam. Retired from the NYNEX Corp. where he installed toll and switching systems. He was a licensed private detective and has received advanced training in hypnotherapy. He was the treasurer for three none profit corporations. He has been a trained Scout Leader for over 20 years, leading high adventure hikes and is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. He lives in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with his wife, Cindy and a collection of pets.

I have done research in a number of areas, been involved in environmental issues and have worked with youth in several programs. What I have tried to do is write a fun story (for the reader & myself) that would impart positive ideas and ways of thinking (acting) to the reader. My ambitions are to give back to and share with society that which has come to me over the years and perhaps make some money to keep my other endeavors going forward.

Being that most of my writing over the years has been technical (telephone, computers, business, law enforcement and environmental), this is my first effort at writing dialog. Also it is the first time I have taken real events, people and facts and addressed them in a fictional environment (story) with the hope some leaps of logic will happen.

My hope is to communicate ideas and concepts to others, but this implies that the reader will meet my mind and understand what I have written. Since much of this is being done in an indirect manner (sharing a tale rather than lecturing on values) it will take the help of many hands (past, present & future) to achieve a beneficial result.

I am looking to appeal to a wide range of readers, however, having spent much time working with our youth, I have aimed more at them. This is part of the reason I have avoided unnecessary sex, violence and the use of language that some of my characters would no doubt use. Hopefully this has not made it unauthentic for the older teens that love adventure.

Lastly I hope the reader enjoys the book and the great adventure called life!
