Karla Denise Baker

Karla Denise Baker began writing at the tender age of ten years old. She began writing poetry as a way to release the burdens stemming from her childhood. She's endured much despair stemming from being abused by an aunt. She's witnessed her mother suffer from schizophrenia during her childhood into teen years. Never really having a mother-daughter relationship she's always felt vacant within. Not having a father-daughter relationship led her to getting pregnant by the age of sixteen. Having her firstborn by the age of seventeen.

By eighteen, she was homeless in streets of Paterson, New Jersey, with her ten-month old son during a November '86 blizzard.By nineteen, she gave birth to her second child. Both children by the same man. Karla has endured a lot of anguish in her young life. She's been sexually assaulted, faced domestic violence, but the ultimate pain was when she was twenty-six and her six year old son was diagnosed on February 2,1995, with a form of cancer called Glioblastoma (malignant brain tumor). He died November 2, 1995, at the age of seven years old.By October 2005, she was informed that her step-sister was killed in a single-person accident in North Carolina. She was only 31 years old leaving behind her nine year old daughter. With so many life struggles, Karla is able to incorporate her personal life in her storytelling. By April 2008, she established The Write Message, and self-published her first novel, Anonymous. Within that same year she wrote Spittin' 'Em Out Like BABIES, Sleepin' Wit' the Virus, Does God Have Toys in Heaven, Barracuda Bytch, and I Cried B'tween My Legs: Lust, Love, and Life Lessons.
