Brian C. Howard

Brian Clark Howard is a journalist and author who has covered a wide range of topics, especially the environment, consumer affairs and technology. He produces content for various platforms, including online, print magazines, video, film and books.

Brian serves as Environment Writer and Editor for National Geographic's website. He previously worked as an Online Journalist for MailOnline.com, the U.S. website of the British newspaper The Daily Mail. He also served as Web Editor at The Daily Green, part of Hearst Digital Media and one of the world's largest and most trusted sources for consumer information on living a more environmentally friendly life.

Brian was previously Managing Editor of E/The Environmental Magazine, the oldest and largest independent environmental magazine in the United States. He has written for Popular Science, TheAtlantic.com, FastCompany.com, Huffington Post, Plenty, The Green Guide, Popular Mechanics online, Men's Health, Mother Nature Network, Oceana, AlterNet, Connecticut Magazine, and elsewhere.

Brian co-wrote the 2012 book Rock Your Ugly Christmas Sweater with Anne Marie Blackman, the 2011 book Build Your Own Small Wind Power System with Kevin Shea, and the 2010 books Geothermal HVAC (with Jay Egg) and Green Lighting (with Seth Leitman and Bill Brinsky). Brian wrote the chapter on green power and green lighting for the 2005 book Green Living (Plume), which he also coedited, and he wrote the chapter on saving energy for the 2009 book Whole Green Catalog (Rodale).

Brian has an MS in journalism from Columbia University and was a finalist for the Reuters/IUCN Environmental Media Awards. He has appeared on numerous radio and television programs and blogs at his website brianclarkhoward.com.
