Marty Strauss lives with his wife, Suzanne and their two dogs, Marley and Morph in Auburn, CA. He spent ten years in Alaska working on natural resource issues. Most of his work was with the Native community.
Marty now works for the City of Sacramento in solid waste. He manages the landfill closure and environmental programs for solid waste.
He has written two books, "Ice to Fire", and "Tale of the Golden Whale".
"Ice to Fire" is historical fiction on a Southeast Alaska fishing village. The story is based on oral histories collected while living and working in villages in Southeast Alaska. It was a radio play in 1978, receiving a National Honorable Mention and published as a book in 2007. "Ice to Fire received a Gold Award from Auburn Arts.
"Tale of the Golden Whale" is the story of the search for mineral wealth off the North Slope of Alaska. It uses Marty's experiences while working above the Arctic Circle with the Native population on a range of issues from subsistance whaling to oil exploration. Against the back drop of the pipeline and the Native Lands Claim Settlement, "Tale of the Golden Whale" is the story of oil and the search for copper beneath the ice.
Marty Strauss is working on a third book, "The Dead Lands", the story of three ladies who sold land they did not own, and they are dead. It takes place in the 1970s in the Florida Keys.
