Peter Ellis

I was born in Yorkshire but have spent all of my adult life in London and the Southeast. I started writing for professional journals at the age of 20 and have around 500 publications to my name - including books, book chapters, review and research papers. My academic interests include research methodologies, health care ethics, kidney care, palliative and end of life care, patient assessment and care planning as well as people management.

I currently work as a freelance consultant, writer and educator and am enjoying the freedom this gives me to work on different projects.

I love writing as it allows me to share ideas, thoughts and understandings which I hope help colleagues and students to develop their practice. Of course that is what being a nurse is all about - improving the care of others.

Look out for the fifth editions of Understanding Research for Nursing Student and Evidence Based Practice in Nursing - these are written in a style to support understanding of these difficult subjects for all students. There are some interesting extra resources and podcasts at: http://www.uk.sagepub.com/ellis_research2e/main.htm

The fourth edition of Understanding Ethics for nursing students is now being written and I hope the earlier editions are still informing your practice.

I have just published the fourth edition of my leadership textbook, with some commentary arising from the pandemic and its impact on leadership.

I also have contributed to The Oxford Handbook of Renal Nursing as well as: Rights, Risks and Responsibilities: Interprofessional Working in Health and Social Care, by Georgina Koubel and Hilary Bungay. Clinical Judgement and Decision-Making in Nursing and Interprofessional Healthcare by Mooi Standing. Workplace Learning in Health and Social Care: A Student's Guide by Carolyn Jackson and Claire Thurgate.

I am involved heavily in village life in Kent. I share my home with my wife, with our daughters having been through university and now working in social work and the law.
