David E. A. Giles

David Giles was born in Sheffield, England, in 1949 and emigrated to New Zealand in 1956. His subsequent education there led to an undergraduate degree in mathematics and statistics and an M. Comm. and Ph.D. (1975) in economics, all from the University of Canterbury. David held academic positions in the Department of Econometrics and Operations Research at Monash Univerisity, Australia, and in the Department of Economics at the University of Canterbury, N.Z., before moving to his current position of Professor of Economics at the University of Victoria, Canada. David's area of expertise is econometrics, and he is actively involved on the editorial boards of several economics and statistics journals. His other interests include jazz, and staying at home.
