Mark was born in Handforth, Cheshire and educated at Wilmslow Grammar School and Macclesfield College. In 2001, he left behind a thirty year career in local government in Manchester and South East London and moved to a small village inland from Spain's Northern Costa Blanca.
After adjusting to his "lifestyle transplant" he began writing and completed a humorous account of his early exploits entitled 'I Want to Live in Spain' published in 2004. 'Fresh, funny and unpretentious' is how one reviewer described the book and called it, 'a must-read book for anyone who has ever dreamed of leaving the rat race for a new life in the sun.' A revised and updated edition of 'I want to live in Spain' was published for Kindle in December 2012 and became a best seller in its genre. A sequel called 'In Pursuit of the Perfect Paella' was published in 2014 and sees Mark reflect on more than ten years of life in his adopted homeland.
A first novel, 'Missing in Spain' was published for Kindle in 2013 and introduced Detective Miguel-Ángel Fernandez who uncovers his Spanish family roots as he investigates the disappearance of a British couple on the Costa Blanca. Detective Fernandez returned in a second murder mystery entitled 'Spanish Lies' which was revised and republished in 2015. The third Fernandez mystery 'A Spanish Affray' was published in 2018. The latest Fernandez novel 'Stag Hunt' was published in 2022 and sees the detective invstigate the sleazy world of Benidorm's stag and hen parties. All four Fernandez mysteries are available in paperback and as Kindle eBooks and have been best sellers in Amazon's International Mystery and Crime listings.
Mark is a keen student of modern Spanish history and in 2013 published a new historical adventure - 'A Spanish Pact.' Set in 1940 in the immediate aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, 'A Spanish Pact' tells the story of one woman's struggle for freedom, truth and justice during the Franco years of repression and subjugation when women were expected conform to the Falange ideal of wife, mother and homemaker. 'A Spanish Pact' is available in paperback and Kindle eBook format from Amazon worldwide.
