Barbara Roberts has been raising awareness of domestic abuse within the evangelical church since 1999. She is a survivor of intimate partner abuse, childhood sexual abuse, spiritual abuse, and systemic abuse.
Barbara is a victim-theologian. She expounds scripture and develops Christian doctrine using her insights as a survivor of abuse, a supporter of other survivors, and her knowledge of what professionals are doing to address interpersonal violence and coercive control.
Barbara holds to the inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture in its original autographs, but she challenges many of the presuppositions and mistranslations which have biased the interpretation of Scripture and have enabled abusers to thrive in churches.
Barbara exposes misogyny and himpathy. She urges men to learn from and honour the women who are resisting gender-based exploitation.
She writes at cryingoutforjustice dot blog, and reposts her articles at Substack.
