Sybilla Cook

Sybilla A. Cook started her career as a library volunteer. She went on to earn a Masters in Library Science, and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, before becoming a

school librarian. She worked at schools in Illinois and Oregon for over 22

years, encouraging children to love reading a variety of books. Sybilla was an early promoter of the Battle of the Books program in Oregon, worked as a library consultant for rural Oregon school districts, served on many school library committees, and was involved across the state wherever her skills could be utilized. Previous awards include the 1984 Library Teacher of

the Year for Oregon, the Gandalf Award in Douglas County, and the 2008 Literacy

Leader for Umpqua Reading Council. S she recently (2016) received the Esther Sibley Lampman Award for "significant contributions in library service for the benefit of the children in Oregon."

Besides reading, she loves walking, and has finished several Portland Oregon marathons. Those encouraged her to discover more about the city, to write two guidebooks about Portland, and to eventually move to the city itself.
