Gerald Benedict.
I held a short-service commission with the Royal Marines serving, by secondment, in Sierra Leone with the Royal West African Frontier Force. On my return to the UK I worked as a mountaineering and canoeing instructor with the Outward Bound Trust in North Wales, then attended London and Geneva universities. After teaching comparative philosophy in colleges and universities, I now live in S. W. France and write full-time. My wife, Nadège, is French and we have two daughters.
An earlier novel, A Place Called Adullam, was runner up in the Constable - Arts Council competition for a first, unpublished novel. I’ve published several short stories and award-winning radio drama for the BBC World Service. While writing and successfully publishing non-fiction that has been translated into more than a dozen languages, I’ve accumulated several novels. The most recent, Electric Soil, and The Long Tail of Terror are looking for representation by a literary agency. The Wrestlers and Another Kind of War, a collection of prize-winning short stories, are available on Amazon Kindle.
In the rare moments when I’m not writing or reading I play the clarinet, enjoy film, theatre, photography, ornithology, travelling, gardening, walking with my dog, and sitting outside café’s watching the world wander past.
