TIM MAYO holds an ALB, cum laude, from Harvard University and an MFA in Writing & Literature from Bennington College. Among the many places his poems and reviews have appeared are Avatar Review, Barrow Street, Narrative Magazine, Naugatuck River Review, Nine Muses Poetry, Poetry International, Poet Lore, River Styx, Salamander, San Pedro River Review, Tar River Poetry,The American Journal of Poetry, Web Del Sol Review of Books, Valparaiso Poetry Review, Verse Daily, and The Writer's Almanac.
His first collection of poems, a chapbook entitled The Loneliness of Dogs (Pudding House Publications, 2008), was a finalist in the WCDR 2008 Chapbook Challenge in Ajax, Ontario, Canada. His second collection The Kingdom of Possibilities (Mayapple Press) followed in 2009 and was a finalist for the 2009 May Swenson Award and a semi-finalist for the 2009 Brittingham/Pollack Awards.
Various incarnations of his third collection, Thesaurus of Separation, have twice been finalists for the Quercus Book Review Poetry Award, finalist for the Tampa Review Prize for Poetry and twice semi-finalists for The Washington Prize. It was also chosen as a finalist for the 2017 Montaigne Medal and a poetry category finalist for the 2017 Eric Hoffer Book Award.
His fourth and most recent collection, Notes to the Mental Hospital Timekeeper, explores the condition of mental illness and what it is like to work in a mental hospital. It won Honorable Mention in the chapbook category of the 2020 Eric Hoffer Book Awards.
