Joe Orsak, from Syracuse, New York, grew up traveling around the globe. He finished high school in Rome, Italy before attending Syracuse University. Joe graduated from SU's Newhouse School of Public Communications.
After working in Advertising as an illustrator and art director, he started his own business, Mastergraphics Studio, in 1980.
In 1982 Joe created a weekly comic strip THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN 'CUSE, which ran in Syracuse newspapers until 1990.
Joe illustrated several comic books for Magnum Comics, MICKEY MANTLE #1 AND #2, wrote and illustrated BROOKS ROBINSON #1 and DUKE SNIDER #1. He also wrote and illustrated SHAQUILLE ONEAL #1 for Stellar Comics. Also in the 1990s, he created several custom comic books for museums in Rochester, NY, Philadelphia, PA and Albany, NY.
Joe is the cover artist for SPORTS GAMBLING 101 by Oliver Jones.
He is also the cover artist for LAW AND THE INVISIBLE HAND: A Theory of Adam Smith's Jurisprudence by Robin Paul Malloy.
In 2008 Joe teamed up with writer Douglas Brode to return to a weekly newspaper strip, SALT CITY, in the Syracuse New Times.
They were noticed by McFarland and Company, publishers, who were interested in starting their own line of graphic novels. Joe and Doug were invited to launch the line with YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS, THE MYTH OF EMILY MORGAN, published in May, 2010.
Their second graphic novel, VIRGIN VAMPIRES was released on October 8th, 2012, also from McFarland and Company.
Joe also teamed up with his friend ROGER STERN to create a story in THE MOST IMPORTANT COMIC BOOK ON EARTH: Stories to Save the World.
With writer TOM PEYER, Joe created a story for the book MINE!: A celebration of liberty and freedom for all benefitting Planned Parenthood
Joe is a contributing artist for AHOY COMICS. He is currently working on MY BAD Volume 3. MY BAD Volume 1 and Volume 2 are available as trade paperbacks.
