James B. Wood

James Wood grew up in South Florida. He caught and kept his first octopus while in high school and became fascinated with these interesting and intelligent invertebrates. James graduated with highest honors from the University Florida. Along the way he was both a Smithsonian and National Science Foundation intern. James earned a PhD at Dalhousie University, Dr. Ron O'Dor was his mentor. Through The Cephalopod Page, The Census of Marine Life, MarineBio.org and CephBase, James has been a pioneer in online marine science education and outreach. James is an accomplished underwater photographer, scientist and educator. James has worked as a faculty research scientists in Bermuda, as Director of Education at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California and as Associate Director at Waikiki Aquarium. He is currently self-employed.
