Anthony Cooke was formerly Senior Lecturer in Continuing Education, University of Dundee and Historical Consultant to Historic Scotland on the restoration of Stanley Mills, Perthshire. Recent publications include Stanley: From Arkwright Village to Commuter Suburb, 1784-2003, (Perth, 2003); From Popular Enlightenment to Lifelong Learning. A History of Adult Education in Scotland, 1707 to 2005, (Leicester, 2006); 'The Scottish Cotton Masters, 1780-1914', Textile History, 40, (1), May 2009, 29-50; and The Rise and Fall of the Scotish Cotton Industry, 1778-1914, (Manchester, 2010). His current project is a book on Scotland and the Atlantic Slave Trade, 1707-1866.
