Carol E. Mull

After earning a Master's degree in Michigan, my first job acquainted me with a local history of abolitionism and escape from slavery. I devoured the brief accounts available and was left hungering for more. Very little was written about Michigan's role in the the Underground Railroad. My search in archives and libraries over many years led to a comprehensive study of the subject and publication of my book, The Underground Railroad in Michigan. Since its release I've lectured on the subject and continue research in preparation for a new book. In 2012, I was awarded the Eastern Michigan University Alumna Achievement Award and the Underground Railroad Free Press 2012 Prize for the Advancement of Knowledge.
