Jerry Dusterhoff

A native of Washington, D.C., Jerry came to the University of Dallas in 1963 and has not lived anywhere other than Texas since. He started long distance running as a direct result of Dr. Kenneth Cooper and his book on Aerobics in the mid-1960s, then became interested in cycling in 1975, succumbing to the allure of BikeCentennial for 1976, an adventure of cycling across the country to help commemorate the Bi-Centennial. Although never doing the BikeCentennial, he has ridden coast to coast.

Beginning in 1996 he completed at least one cycling vacation annually, doing as many as three. He sees no reason to tour the same ride twice, since there are so many spectacular places to see and so little time in which to fit them all in. Casting about for additional cycling venues when not on vacation, he joined the racing competition in the Senior Games. After several years’ apprenticeship, he is now a top rider in his age group and for the last two years lays claim to being the fastest man in Texas; he is the current Senior Games State Time Trial Champion, State Road Champion, and National Silver Medalist. He is also the USAC State Time Trial Champion.

He is a regular with the Bicycle Sport Shop rides in Austin, and occasionally cycles with the Georgetown Cyclopaths in Williamson County, whose eye-catching jersey he designed.

Having as much fun as he does cycling, he wrote his first book in an attempt to induce as many people as possible to consider cycling vacations. His second book, Gotta Go! was written as an E-book and contains links to all of his pictures, thus enhancing reader’s vicarious experiences. The print version also refers to the link.

Jerry and his wife, Marilane, are proud of the three children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren and visit as often as possible
