Mikesch Muecke

Mikesch Muecke, Ph.D., grew up playing in the forests and fields that surround the hamlet of Spork-Eichholz (now Detmold) in northwestern Germany. After graduating from the Engelbert-Kämpfer Gymnasium in Lemgo, he traveled for a year through Canada, Mexico, and the United States, returned to Germany, and then moved to the United States in 1985.

After completing degrees at the University of Florida (BDesign, MArch) and Princeton University (MS in Architecture, Ph.D. in Architectural History and Theory), he taught architecture at Iowa State University until 2025.

Twenty years earlier, in 2005, he had founded Culicidae Press®, LLC (peer-reviewed), followed by Culicidae Architectural Press (books about art and design), Hog Press (books with regional interest and poetry), Zanzara Press (buzz publishing), Handcar Press (critical books), and Obvious Press (private label). He designs and publishes books, websites, and other media vehicles for clients worldwide.
