Peter W. Kontes

Peter Kontes was born in 1946 in Vineland, New Jersey. He attended The Hill School, Yale University, where he earned a BA in history, and The University of California (Berkeley) from which he received his MBA in finance. His early working years were spent in San Francisco at the Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank.

In 1978 he co-founded Marakon Associates, a management consulting firm in which he played a leadership role until his retirement in 2003. During his time at Marakon, Mr. Kontes was an advisor to CEO's of over thirty large corporations in the U.S. and Europe. Also during this time he co-authored "The Value Imperative" (Free Press 1994). His most recent book is "The CEO, Strategy, and Shareholder Value" (Wiley 2010).

Currently, Mr. Kontes continues consulting to senior executives and is also an Executive-in-Residence at the Yale Graduate School of Management, where he teaches a course on strategic management. He lives with his two sons in Greenwich, Connecticut.
