Tom Ratcliffe

Tom Ratcliffe was born and brought up in the same county where served for almost 30 years as a Police Officer. After a grammar school and university education, he found himself in uniform - He pounded the beat on foot and by car, and then spent ten years as a traffic officer. His memory of these years remained clear and vivid, and from these has come this, his first book. In the latter half of his career he was a police air observer before being promoted to sergeant and spending his final years in the cells.

'Prisoners Property and Prostitutes' has a blend of perception, comment and humour like none before. If Evelyn Waugh, James Herriott and Bill Bryson had been policemen, this would be the result.

Now retired, Tom spends his time writing, walking his four dogs and trying to be useful around the house.

He is married with two children, one who is a professional photographer and the other a veterinary student.
