Dr Jeff Miller is a psychologist with a private practice in suburban Kansas City, Missouri. He has over 30 years experience in treating emotional disorders and behavioral issues. Jeff has worked with universities, hospitals, law enforcement, private and public institutions as a trainer, consultant or service provider. Jeff's approach is influenced by the therapeutic style of Dr. Milton H Erickson, who pioneered the focus on individual assets and techniques known as utilization therapy. His therapeutic style is both warm and incisive but always unique to the individual or family seeking help. It is their understanding, skills, challenges and success that he weaves into the therapeutic dialogue to craft respectful solutions. He is interested in metaphoric communication, the power of story telling and therapeutic humor. Initially focused on behavioral and cognitive behavioral interventions, Jeff's therapeutic foundations survived a leap into hyperspace with exposure to dissociative disorders and plural personal realities in the 1980's. This challenge sent him to Phoenix to delve in the world of trance metacommunication at the Erickson Foundation. His doctoral dissertation "MMPI-2 Profiles of Multiple Personalities" was the first rigorous statistical analysis of MPD, providing a heuristic formula to define the disorder based on test scores. Having turned that corner in melding his behavior scientist and hypnotic realities selves another shakeup was on order. "If you want to hear God laugh", he says, "tell Her your plans". The 1990's brought the death of his father, love and marriage and life on an urban farm raising Dalmatians and a formal conversion to Vajrayana Buddhism. "The pluses and minuses of this era were staggering, never happier or more saddened, increasing my depth and authenticity. This is where my serious writing began in small pieces on life, pain, healing and purpose" The period ended with a new chapter beginning in February 2000. A head-on collision an iced over bridge in Iowa sent Jeff and his wife to a series of hospitals and rehab centers. The road back from Code Blue was another defining journey that required a new perspective and set of tools. "Shortly after returning to work, I noticed a tangible shift in style and substance in my therapy, I was quieter, more respectful of individual pain and grief process. I became more patient and compassionate, my boddichitta became an emotional GPS guiding me through each individual epic" The Powers That Be bestowed his daughter at this juncture and another life began. "My later life adventure as father to my daughter and son gave me a fresh perspective on development, family dynamics and the healing potential of revisiting your childhood. In this time life was turned inside out repeatedly through the birth of my children and the death of my brothers" "This is where Celeste walked into my office and I told her I was useless in treating Fibromyalgia and would need her help in understanding her needs" Rising to the challenge they started a long journey of healing, sharing and writing culminating in these books. "Integrative Therapies" was an emotional roller coaster and exercise in frustration and rejection" Begun as a journal writing therapy exercise, it took on another life to become the most comprehensive guide to experiencing Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome. "Our support team at Healing Arts Press truly "healed" our previous publishing debacles and produced a gold standard book" The "Broken Bodies" series required a fresh approach so he took the step of forming ImPress Media as an outlet for future writing. "Celeste has suggested, and I agree, that our expertise is reducing suffering through a combination of science, compassion, practice and patience." The Broken Body series takes this approach to pain and healing as a whole, teaching balance through individual exploration of styles, needs and methods. Life is a blur of roles and requirements culminating in names and titles. "If you know me as a friend in my male cooking groups I am Dr. Love, kids call me Dr. Jeff and my root guru will call my dharma name, Cherub Choepal, to guide me from the bardot to my next incarnation. On the ski slopes, I am Otto, in my marriage, I answer to "darling", on the witness stand as an expert, I am Dr Miller, on stage playing blues harp I'm Mickey Shenanigans (with Iron Prostate or The Dreadful Grapes). My favorite name is "Dad". I will do anything for my children but their homework. I hope, someday they read these books and get a better understanding of who I was and what mattered to me. My life is devoted to my children, to reducing suffering and ending racism"
