Larry Welch

Larry Welch is a product of the American midwest. He was born in Tecumseh, Michigan in 1942, served as a cryptologist in the United States Navy (1960-1984) and worked as a civilian security specialist with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service until retirement in 2007. During his travels he has lived in the Philippines, Spain, Italy, Puerto Rico and Singapore and visited nearly 40 other countries. While living in Northern Virginia, he was a prominent volunteer leader with The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and several other nonprofit organizations that benefited the poor, young, elderly and diseased. He is a Distinguised Toastmaster and received a bachelor of science degree (management) from the University of Maryland in 1995. Larry currently resides in Thailand where he has the Full Moon Rubber Plantation and teaches English at a public high school near Bangkok. A storyteller at heart, for 12 years he has written On the run..., an on-line publication about his experiences. He has been presented numerous commendations by the Navy, Toastmaster International, and The Komen Foundation for his professionalism, contributions to mission, and community service. In 2009, he was awarded a Model Teacher Award by the Pathumthani Minister of Education for his classroom leadership.
