R. Michael Fisher

My original name for publishing scholarly work was Robert M. Fisher, and after I hit mid-life or so, I changed to R. Michael Fisher. I've been systematically writing and publishing things since I was 23 years old, even though I know all my school teachers would faint if they knew I was a published author, researcher and educator. Seriously, my grade nine aptitude tests came out with the finding that I maybe ought to become a "clerk"-- hey, you don't tell that to a guy with shoulder length hair who thinks he's cool and plays in rock bands at 14 years of age. Not cool. I ignored all that and squeaked my way through provincial exams in junior and senior high. I was not an academic student by any means. I came from a typical working poor class and no one in my family history went into college or university (except 2 step-uncles on my dad's side which were of the 'new' generation). Thus, I come to being a writer not because I could write and loved it. Not at all. I did lousy in English and Literature. I am a naturalist-science lover by heart, and I observe all animals behaviors with great joy (including Homo sapiens). I don't read much fiction either but I love The Matrix sci-fi trilogy (did my Ph.D. on it). I never read much at all in school years. You get the idea. I hated school pretty much. It didn't work for how my brain worked.

So, what am I doing here, with all these degrees? I have 12 years of post-secondary education, running through career tracks in ecology, environmental biology, education, rehabilitation counseling, adult education and curriculum and pedagogy. All that won't tell you much. It tells you that I don't like to become stale. I am a life-long learner searching always for ways to best liberate from the 'Fear' Matrix of this world. I move to where I see creative possibilities and I hack away at the illusions and delusions that keep us from seeing 'the way.' I'm used to being 'out there'-- at the edge of the edge. And, I like to interpret what I learn from all sources and teach what I can and invoke others to such creative pursuits. As for solid career with big savings and pensions-- forget it; but who knows, maybe I'll become a famous author someday (ha ha). I'm not holding my breath. I write what needs to be said, not what people want to hear to feel comfortable and remain 'asleep.' That's a marketing problem, so they tell me.

All that said, who am I? An artist first, a writer and teacher second, and an avid researcher third. That's what I'll say today. I will refer to myself as an integral human development consultant, and a fearologist if really pressed. You'll get all that if you read my books--transdisciplinary studies in how to emancipate human consciousness from the cultural trance. That's enough.

If you want the most updated thinking I'm doing, and generally what I am up to go to my blog http://fearlessnessmovement.ning.com AND for my latest books, they are listed with Amazon.
