Ronald L. Reed

Ron is currently an Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences at Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, TX. He earned his M.S. in interior design from Colorado State University and a B.S. in interior design from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He has practiced in both residential and commercial design with an emphasis in senior living communities specializing in assisted living and memory care interiors.

Ron is a Registered Interior Designer in Texas, a NCIDQ certificate holder #020474 and a professional member of the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC), the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and the Inter-Society Color Council (ISCC). Ron is also a certified aging in place specialist (CAPS) with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). His personal design and research interests focus on senior living design, color theory and application, and interior environmental features leading to perceptions of place-attachment and meanings of home in environments of limited personal control.

Combining his interests in color theory, teaching, and design practice; he has published several books including Color Plus Design: Transforming Interior Space, 1st, 2nd & 3rd editions; co-authored Color Studies, 3rd Eds.; and contributed to the 5th and 6th editions of the New Munsell Student Color Set as a consultant and Associate Editor. His graduate research was published in Finding a Place Called Home: the Resident’s Journey in Assisted Living.
