Deborah Dahl

Dr. Deborah Dahl is a consultant in speech, natural language, and multimodal technologies and their applications. She is the Principal at Conversational Technologies, which provides reports, analyses, and design services that enable her clients to understand, apply and transition these technologies from the laboratory to the marketplace. Accessibility, assistive technology, and rehabilitative applications of speech technology are a particular emphasis. In addition to her technical work, Dr. Dahl is active in speech and multimodal standards. She is a co-chair of the World Wide Web Consortium's Voice Interaction Community Group and has chaired the World Wide Web Consortium's Multimodal Interaction Working Group, She is currently a Senior Technical Advisor to the Open Voice Network. Dr. Dahl received her Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Minnesota, followed by post-doctoral studies in Cognitive Science at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in natural language processing. Dr. Dahl has over thirty years of experience in natural language understanding and speech technologies and has published over fifty technical papers, including four books, most recently "Natural Language Understanding with Python". She also writes a bimonthly column on standards for Speech Technology Magazine.
