Jim Grant

In regard to investing, I am a private investor residing in northeast Ohio. Since retiring in 2007, I’ve had the opportunity to spend a lot of time analyzing the financial markets, investing, reading investing books, listening to everything I could on the financial news. I joined an investment club in which we pooled money. I went to investment seminars. I participated in a small group of private investors. I tried out many investments strategies. I even developed a back-testing model which tested many different strategies over the last 60+ years. I’ve written a variety of investment articles and made presentations at various groups of investors. I have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a Master’s degree in Operations Research, which focuses on mathematical optimization and statistical analysis. I worked in businesses for over 30 years. Most of that time I managed business, financial, and operations analysts who determined what caused the past and predicted the future.

In regard to the job search, I was one of the co-founders and co-leaders of the Chagrin Valley Job Seekers (CVJS), a group that met in northeast Ohio twice a month to help job seekers for 11 years. There were 50-250 people at each meeting and over 5,900 people received services from CVJS. I voluntarily spent 50-60 hours a month running CVJS and individually counseling job seekers. There were articles on CVJS in several local papers and The Cleveland Plain Dealer. I wrote large portions of three of the articles. I also wrote about 35 articles on various aspects of the job search. I appeared on radio talk shows, taking calls from listeners, and giving them advice on their job search. I gave presentations to job seekers at many groups throughout northeast Ohio on a variety of job search topics, such as "How to Network" and "Negotiating Compensation." I also spoke to 350 job seekers at two churches in Raleigh, NC.
