Suzan Tanner was born in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. This is a small town in Western North Carolina that is surrounded by beautiful scenery, but has never offered much in the way of job opportunities. Spruce Pine is located in the middle of Western North Carolina mining country. Suzan's father was plant manager of one of the first mining companies. Her first book is roughly based on an employee of that company who worked in the laboratory. He was a very interesting person who loved animals. He rescued many stray animals as there were no animal shelters at that time in the area. He even kept an alligator in a bath tub at the laboratory at one time. Suzan loves animals too and The Most Unusual Adventures of Black Shadow Smokey and The Blue Streak is about an adopted dog and cat. The cat was actually a stray found at a mining company.
Suzan's second book The Crystal Swan is about the interesting people who can be found at nursing homes. These people are often over looked and the book is a mystery for young adults that is intended to show how interesting they can really be.
Suzan belongs to the Appalachian Author's Guild and The Society of Children's Book Writer's. She has a FACEBook page. She has one dog, three cats and two hermit crabs. Her hobbies are writing, painting and flying.
