Anne McLaughlin

Anne McLaughlin is a Professor of Psychology at North Carolina State University. She has been the president of Division 21 of the American Psychological Association and is an Associate Editor for the journal Human Factors, the flagship journal of the field. She also serves as a member of the Scientific Publications Committee of HFES, advising on the choice of editors for HFES journals (Human Factors, Ergonomics in Design, and the Journal of Cognitive Engineering and Decision Making). She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. She recently served as an Associate Editor for Innovations in Aging, a journal of the Gerontological Society of America. She has served as Chair of the Aging Technical Group of the Human Factors and Ergonomics society. She has been funded by NSF, NASA, NIH, NSA, and other organizations. She has co-authored a book for practitioners wishing to design technologies for older persons, Designing Displays for Older Adults (2010) that is now in its second edition (2020). She has also co-edited a recently released academic collection focused on Aging, Health, and Technology (2020). In 2022, she published All Too Human, a text for students and the general public to understand the goals and methods of human factors psychology. Her current research interests focus on the design and use of cognition aids for a variety of users across a variety of domains.
