Shiping Tang

Shiping Tang is Fudan Distinguished Professor, Fudan Univeristy, Shanghai, China.

He has a very broad research interest, ranging from international relations (IR) to philosophy of the social sciences. His earlier book, The Social Evolution of International Politics (Oxford University Press, 2013), was awarded the "Annual Best Book Award" by the International Studies Association (ISA) in 2015. He is also the author of On Social Evolution: Phenomenon and Paradigm (Routledge 2020), A Theory of Security Strategy for Our Time: Defensive Realism (Palgrave-Macmillan 2010), A General Theory of Institutional Change (Routledge 2011). He is the co-editor of Living with China: Regional States and China through Crises and Turning Points (Palgrave-Macmillan 2009). He has also published many articles in leading journals.

Prof. Tang's most recent book, The Institutional Foundation of Economic Development, is forthcoming from Princeton University Press, Oct., 2022.
