In 2002, Dawn was elected to the Sacramento City Unified School Board of Trustees, one of the nation's top fifty largest school systems, at age of thirty-three where she sparked renewed school district accountability, spearheaded policy governance, and preserved literacy programs and school libraries.
She holds a bachelor's of science degree in psychology from Howard University and a master of public policy degree from Georgetown University, and is a Connective Leadership Institute certified leadership practitioner.
Debrena Jackson Gandy, national best-selling author of Sacred Pampering Principles and All the Joy You Can Stand, describes Dawn saying, "Dawn has written what I consider to be a leaders handbook that should be required reading."
Pamela Hemann, a renowned women's leadership development advocate says that "Dawn has captured her own wide range of leadership experiences into a concise, well-organized book which transfers her experiences into valuable lessons for others in leadership roles. As she did during her Leadership California involvement, she shares her natural leadership skills."
