David Mitchell

David Mitchell is a retired solicitor, former deputy district judge, mediator, etc who has recently published 'Tea,Love and War - searching for English roots in Assam'.

Tea, Love and war is a biography, but written in the style of a novel - it has received enthusiastic reviews and many readers believe it would make a splendid film.

The blog shows some of the early photos of characters and places appearing in the text - together with recent photos of the survivors of this true saga.

David had previously written two of the 'Bluffer's Guides' - the first one to Law and the second to Divorce. At the time that these were published he commented:

'rather a long time in the law has resulted in my slightly cynical views of the profession but I hope that the guides to both law and divorce will help give an insight and understanding into what lawyers really do. Each year an avalanche of new law means that the guides are now arguably less precise than when they were last amended - but that is the nature of the beast. In these days of specialisation, where newly qualified solicitors concentrate on what is often a tiny area of the law, an overall guide of the nature of Bluffer's Guide to the Law will probably never be repeated - so enjoy what may the last generalist guide to the legal world!'

These Bluffer's guides are now significantly out of date - although much of the comment remains relevant today - and may be seen as entertaining historical comment on the foibles of law and lawyers...
