Hi, Alison Buck here.
To date, two of my novels have been published - Devoted Sisters and Abiding Evil - and, more recently, I contributed four short stories to an anthology of speculative fiction: [Re]Awakenings.
If you are one of those who bought and hopefully enjoyed any of my books, please accept a big thank you.
I do enjoy writing. I love the challenge of trying to communicate to a reader the images, characters and events that are so vivid in my imagination. Obviously, I'll never know whether I fully succeed, but readers and reviewers have been kind enough to praise the richness of description and characterisation, while employing phrases such as 'thought-provoking', 'enchanting' and 'memorable'. That said, they also seem to enjoy the thrill of being unsettled, even frightened - with one reviewer warning others not to read Abiding Evil alone at night!
It is immensely encouraging when readers write to let me know that they have enjoyed the books. This is the final stage in a process that is exciting and absorbing from the start when, on day one, I face that first, blank screen. Once the writing begins to flow, the stories take off, characters begin to write themselves and time - in the real world at least - ceases to have any meaning. (At this point I think it might be politic to thank my long-suffering family for all their support, encouragement and patience ;-)
Finally, though the writing is hugely rewarding, and the positive feedback from readers wonderfully gratifying, for me there is little to compare with the excitement of holding the just-published paper copy of one of my books for the first time.
And I get paid to do this! How lucky am I ?
If you would like to comment on my books, or follow progress on my future titles, please feel free to go to my blog, 'Pass the Buck.'
Thank you for reading.
