After research over a ten year period my first book was published by Fyfield Books in 2005 entitled, 'John William Polidori 'The Vampyre' and other writings. I was delighted to receive a favourable review in The Times Literary Supplement as a result. My book was the first to include a collection of private letters (some newly translated from Italian) written by John William Polidori (1795-1821) and other family members and contemporary literary figures. John William Polidori was a Romantic tragedian, poet and creator of the now iconic handsome, seducing and deadly vampire of English literature. He was Lord Byron's travelling companion in 1816.
As an academic I am a relentless researcher particularly into obscure 19th century literary figures. My background as a journalist taught me about the importance of research and writing to deadlines! I am also a professional illustrator and cartoonist and my hardback book entitled, 'The Cartoonist's bible - an essential reference for the practising artist' was published by Search Press 2006 to critical acclaim.
I also had two paperback titles published by the Gothic Society entitled, Polidori! A Life and Selected Works of J.W.Polidori.
My current book - my first work of fiction - is entitled 'The Diabolical Confessions of Count Dalborra' a novel based upon actual very sinister events that took place in 13th century Venice which impacted upon a man obsessed with visiting Victorian cemeteries in England.
You can currently catch me at England's best kept secret venue, Kelham Hall, near Newark in north Nottinghamshire where I am the host/tour guide to this wonderfully exhuberant Victorian gothic mansion! My next gothic novel has been inspired by this venue.
