Sherrie Lynne Lyons

Sherrie Lynne Lyons is a science historian. She has a BA in genetics from UC Berkeley and a PHD in the history of science from University of Chicago. She teaches at Empire State College and is the “Academic Mom” for the Union College men's ice hockey team. She has published three books including a scientific biography on Thomas Huxley and Species, Serpents, Spirits and Skulls, which takes an entertaining but serious look at marginal sciences in the Victorian era including phrenology, spiritualism, and sea serpent investigations along with evolutionary theory. Because of her research on sea serpent investigations she briefly became known as the sea serpent lady in the history of science community. However, she has primarily written on various aspects of the history of evolutionary theory. Her most recent book is Evolution the Basics. She lives with her cat Phoebe and thinks cats are the most highly evolved creatures, having turned over the running of the world to humans and to act as their personal servants.
