Ian Newton

Ian Achmed Newton was born Ian Achmed in the post war bombed out slums of the port city of Hull in the United Kingdom; in an area reserved for the ghettoised underclass poor. They lived cheek by jowl with rats, mice, bed bugs, wall bugs, fleas and head lice. Ian's first eldest step brother Alastair was killed during the german blitz of 1939- 1945 and his second eldest brother Brian died during one of the many dysentery outbreaks that were rife in the 1950's poor. Just three months before Ian was born his father died at sea, leaving a young mother, who could hardly care for herself, let alone four young mixed race children, that were made less than welcome, in the harsh bigoted streets of the white underclass poor.

With a Yemeni merchant seaman as a father, a british mother and Irish traveller grandfather, Ian is very proud to describe his heritage as pure mongrel and a citizen of the world and is also proud to be British despite his his life's experiences.

The background to Ian's first novel, Dustbingate, a best seller, catapulted Ian to national and international fame or infamy, depending on your point of view as it created a media frenzy of epic proportions in a scandal that went to very steps of number 10 Downing Street and the heart of the New Labour government. The Dustbingate screenplay has been optioned for film production by some of the biggest film producers in Los Angeles and the UK, including the late great Oscar winning John Daly, producer of the Terminator, Platoon and The Last Emperor. It still has yet to be made.

Since then Ian has produced four more published books, The Night Shift and Pizza Wars and a second best seller, Hessle Road Scallywags, which documents the struggles of four impoverished children growing up in post war Britain and how mischief and fun was the escape from poverty, a dysfunctional home life and a community that hated them because of their race. Ian also has several other publications on amazon kindle which reflect both the comedy which he loves and his passion for politics, both national and international.

Today Ian, whilst a qualified industrial chemist and mental health social worker, he spends his time flitting between London and Los Angeles were his family have a highly successful entertainment company with offices on Hollywood Boulevard, in News York, London and Sydney. It is a long way from the post war slums of Hull, and a hard road travelled to escape the poverty, but Ian sees himself as one was one of the lucky ones, he made it out of the ghetto and survived by the skin of his teeth, many did not. One of his books, Hessle Road Scallywags, is Ian's story of growing up as an underclass mixed race kid in post war ravaged Britain. Due to the success of Hessle Road Scallywags, Hessle Road Scallywags 2 is already being written.
