Vincent Austin

Vincent Austin was a successful textbook writer for schools and universities, always writing from first hand experience. His first book was 'Workshop Theory for G.C.E Metalwork and Engineering', covering sheet metalwork, silversmithing, forgework, fitting and machine work. He then wrote and illustrated 'An Approach to Design in Metal', which was the forerunner to the subject 'Design and Technology'. After graduating from The London School of Economics he became a university lecturer and a United Nations technical adviser. 'Rural Industrial Development' was based on U.N. field work in Bangladesh, Nigeria, Pakistan and Panama. 'Rural Project Management' was the result of field experience, and a United Nations seminar he led in Ethiopia, which concluded that university courses in the sciences needed a management content.
