Jan Mazzoni

It was - as a young and solitary child - reading Alice in Wonderland that began Jan Mazzoni's fascination with the power of words. Words, she soon realised, could transport you to another world. They could create fear and delight, tease and inspire. She knew she too would write. But she also has a low boredom threshold, which may explain why she's never quite settled on one career. In the early days she was an advertising copywriter, working in agencies in both London and New York. Next she became a travel writer. Then she turned to writing vegetarian cookbooks, having over 20 published under the name Janet Hunt. She went on to write short stories and serials for women's magazines. More recently she has had two novels published: Stones of the Madonna, a tale of lust and betrayal set in Italy in 1939, and The Snow Fox Diaries, a disturbing, thought-provoking contemporary story that takes place on Exmoor.

Throughout it all, her love and respect for all animals, wildlife in particular, and her passionate concern about the threats faced by our environment today has sneaked into much of her writing. As a journalist these are issues she regularly explores.

Though she is currently working on another novel, the need to move on to something completely different is growing. Radio drama will be her next challenge.
