Jason G. Kokkorakis

Sifu Jason Kokkorakis has studied Martial Arts for over 40 years, with a reality based approach to his training and teaching. He began training in Wu Shu Kwan at the age of 12 years old. By 14 he would spend a lot of time with his first teacher at his martial arts shop, hanging out and during quiet times in the day being taught how to use Balisong, Nunchuku and Kali/Escrima. Moving to Portugal at the age of 16 he then went on to experience Capoeira and continued his training on a casual basis until his return to the UK aged 20.

By 22 he had enrolled at Oxford Brookes university to study Law and was invited to teach at the university Martial arts club. He also began private training with a small group of Wing Chun practitioners in Oxford, one of whom went on to open his own school under Sifu Nino Bernado. Since 1990 he has studied many other Martial Arts whole heartedly including Aikido, Tai Chi, Tae Kwon do, Kendo and Ju Jitsu but truly fell in love with Wing Chun Kung Fu in 1993 and by 1996 decided to focus on the Wing Chun system only. Since then he has studied and developed his skill sets in this martial art daily.

As more friends began to request him to teach them, he transitioned into teaching Wing Chun classes full time. However he always maintained a students desire to learn and this lead him to seek out many teachers that would all have a very different approach to the system due to their teachers own preferences or attitudes towards application or way and this exposed a great deal of contradiction and similarity, which would often be marred in political in fighting amongst these groups, something he had no interest in. After moving to Greece in 1997 in 1999 he became independent of the 'nonsense" and in 2000 he opened his first club under the name "Universal Martial Arts Association", with the idea of teaching the System of Wing Chun with only one mans interpretation of the system, that man being GGM Ip Man.

In 2007 he wrote the detailed and unique book on the system, "Learning Wing Chun Kung Fu" as a way of detailing the universally accepted training methods or applications that most good schools will emphasise and left out anything that may be deemed controversial amongst his peers. This book has been widely embraced by the Wing Chun community as one of the best books available on the systems basic requirements for successful application.

Having researched and studied the interpretations of the Wing Chun system by many of the well known Sifu that came from the Ip Man lineage, in 2011 he approached GM Samuel Kwok for clarification and final honing of his skills and was luckily accepted as a private student to GM Kwok. In 2012 he was awarded an Honorary Instructor (Sifu) certificate and given the name "Fei Leung", "Flying Dragon" by Grandmaster Samuel Kwok of which he was immensely proud. Having completed his training under Grand Master Kwok, being taught GGM Ip Man's Muk Jong and Baat Jam Dao forms personally, in itself a great honour.

Due to many personal tragedies that followed, and then the outbreak of Covid, Sifu Kokkorakis closed his school and nowise semi retired from teaching. He now shares his knowledge with his close indoor students one to one. His goal has and will always be, to share this most incredible martial art strive to pass it on to deserving practitioners correctly, honestly and without reservation.
