Jamie S. Rich is an author known for both prose and comics. He has published four novels: CUT MY HAIR, I WAS SOMEONE DEAD, THE EVERLASTING, and HAVE YOU SEEN THE HORIZON LATELY?, all released through Oni Press.
In addition to writing fiction, he has worked as a music journalist, a manga rewriter, and spent ten years editing comic books, four of them at Dark Horse Comics and six as editor-in-chief of Oni Press. In 2015, he returned to publishing, joining Vertigo Comics as Senior Editor and eventually becoming Group Editor of the Batman titles, working with Tom King on the main series as well as MISTER MIRACLE, RORSHACH, STRANGE ADVENTURES, and SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW. Other creators Rich edited include Gerard Way, John Ridley, Scott Snyder, Brian Michael Bendis N.K. Jemisin, and many more. He oversaw the launches of Jon Kent as Superman and Yara Flor as the new Wonder Woman, and co-edited the Eisner Award-winning anthology LOVE IS LOVE. Since DC, Rich has been Editor-in-chief at Tapas Studios and IDW, where he was at the helm of the top-selling 2024 relaunch of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES.
As a writer, Rich debuted his first ongoing comic book series in June of 2006, LOVE THE WAY YOU LOVE, a collaboration with Marc Ellerby (now collected in two omnibus editions). This was followed in the fall of that year by the original graphic novel 12 REASONS WHY I LOVER HER, drawn by Joëlle Jones.
The writer teamed with Joëlle Jones a second time for another full-length graphic novel, YOU HAVE KILLED ME, a hardboiled crime story set in the 1930s. Oni Press published the book in July 2009. More recently, the pair collaborated on LADY KILLER for Dark Horse. Based on an idea by Jones, LADY KILLER stars a 1960s housewife who has a secret life as an assassin. The violent dark comedy debuted in 2015.
Rich has also worked for Image Comics, scripting two volumes of IT GIRL AND THE ATOMICS, a spin-off of Mike Allred's Madman. It's drawn by Mike Norton (BATTLEPUG), Chynna Clugston Flores (BLUE MONDAY), and Natalie Nourigat (BETWEEN GEARS). The entire series was collected in two trade paperbacks. Nourigat is also Rich's collaborative partner on A BOY AND A GIRL, a futuristic love story.
Other books by Jamie S. Rich include two books with artist Megan Levens (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER): the twisted horror of MADAME FRANKENSTEIN and the classic Hollywood romance of ARES & APHRODITE: LOVE WARS, as well as THE DOUBLE LIFE OF MIRANDA TURNER, a superhero adventure with George Kambadais. He also published the the pulpy, surreal ARCHER COE & THE THOUSAND NATURAL SHOCKS with Dan Christensen and its sequel, THE WAY TO DUSTY DEATH.
Rich lives in Idaho with a pug who reminds him life is not all that complicated or stressful if you just take a minute for a good stretch.
